Integrative Projects
Sensors
In 1997, 4ID developed a tough Bus passenger counting system, counting the incoming and outgoing passengers for EGGED buses (EGGED is Israel's largest bus operator).
This system was designed to comply with all relevant standards and tested for longevity and multiple abuse and environmental scenarios including:
- Direct sunlight exposure - reaching operational temperatures of 83 degrees Celsius.
- operation below freezing point
- millions of steps, jumps and kicks as part of the duty cycle
- Chemical, water, fire, tear and wear resistance.
Project highlights:
- A specialty PU compound developed for flexibity in a wide temperature range to relay pressure signals to the sensors, while withstanding abrasion and tear.
- Customized production technology, molds, tailored PU machinery developed to support the production line.
- Special mechanical stepper was developed, for simulation testing and proving , simulating 1 million human steps, kicks and jumps over the sensors.
- Special electro-mechanical sensors embedded in PU injection molding developed.
This project spanned a decade from specification to serial production.
